Grace schmied, graceworks

For over twenty-five years now Grace’s parents have served as home missionaries with InFaith. They strive to keep Christ at the center of all they do and involve the whole family, Grace, Liberty, Isaac, Jubilee, and Mari-Delight, in every aspect of ministry. Vacation Bible Schools, Neighborhood Bible Clubs and summer camps were among the first outreach projects in which Grace was directly involved. Serving alongside her parents in ministry for so many years led to her desire to serve more diligently.

It’s not easy to summarize everything Grace is involved in, that’s part of the reason the ministry project title “GraceWorks” fits so well; but there’s more behind the name. GraceHelps was one of the original ideas but it isn’t quite the right play on words. Yes, Grace Schmied helps, but God’s grace doesn’t help.  God’s grace is what makes salvation work, God’s grace works! Our good works profit us nothing.

In 2 Corinthians 12:9 Jesus tells Paul “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.”  Paul says "Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”

Grace’s desire is that Christ’s power will rest on her and that she will not boast in her works but rather in her weaknesses and God’s power and enablement.

Ephesians 2:8-9 says “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of ourselves it is a gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Ephesians 1:7 "We have redemption in Christ through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace,”

So Grace says as Paul did "I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace given me through the working of His power." Ephesians 3:7

In the summer you’ll find Grace working away in a Bible Camp kitchen. She loves cooking for a crowd, which could be anywhere from 15 to 50 or more. A typical day’s menu might include pancakes & little smokies, homemade pizza (cheeseburger toppings are the best!), shepherd’s pie, & popcorn for movie time!

Grace’s family began packing shoe-boxes for Operation Christmas Child, OCC, before the year 2000. This childhood passion has built a fire for OCC within her. Grace works year-round to gather sale & clearance items to be packed in thousands of shoe-boxes. The OCC year climax is the week before Thanksgiving when folks all around the globe deliver their packed boxes to local drop off locations. Thousands of shoe-boxes are loaded into shipping cartons & onto semi-truck trailers. It’s invigorating to know that each one of those shoe-boxes she handles represents an opportunity for the gospel to be presented!

Grace works to show the importance to her to support the community. She and her mom co-ordinate a Baby Quilt Challenge (BQC) to benefit EmbraceWichita, the local pregnancy crisis center. The BQC encourages people to donate handmade quilts and other items to Embrace to be given to parents who complete their free parenting initiative courses.

GraceWorks’ newest ministry focus is a store Grace opened November 2017, called Aunt Bee’s Honey Et Cetera Shop (AuntBeesHoneyEtC.Shop). The Lord lead her to expand their family honey business from a tent at weekly farmers’ markets to a brick and mortar shop. As she was jotting down business plans the Lord gave her this acrostic, spelling out Et Cetera, to summarize the vision of the store:

E ncouraging
T oday’s

C ulture to
E mbrace
T he grace our
E verlasting,
R edeemer,
A lmighty God has given.

Along with their focus on Kansas honey, Grace has sought out friends and family’s handcrafted treasures to sell at the shop. She also uses the store for the Wildtree ( products she promotes. (When she uses Wildtree she can eat without sensitivities flaring up that are a result of her health history.) She’s looking forward to sharing her love for cooking by teaching classes at the shop. The training from Wildtree has been a huge encouragement, feeding her desire to serve customers and build meaningful relationships that go beyond selling products.

Her desire is to be God’s Grace at work, planting seeds of God’s good news of salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ in the lives the Lord allows her to touch.
