In April of 2016, an eight-year-old boy named Jojo died as a result of injuries inflicted by his caregiver, a female relative (not his mother) who was in an isolated rural area, had little experience raising a child, and had no support system to help her when things got to be too much.
Our hearts broke to hear this story, and out of this tragedy, the idea was born to start a program that would provide support to families in similar situations.
At Jojo’s Sanctuary, we aim to educate, protect and support vulnerable children, families and communities.
We do this by working with leaders in the community to create a local safety support network, implement a family strengthening program in the community and provide foster homes for children in need of care for up to one year.
